This kit is the perfect complement to Model Smiths’ N&W Color Position Light signals! This kit includes pre-cut and pre-drilled brass masts, as well as ladder assemblies and an elevated platform designed from original Norfolk & Western drawings. When coupled with signal heads of any style, this yields an incredibly authentic model that works perfectly in any HO scale scene!

This kit is based on the standard N&W dual signal mast design. This kit is available in three variations with differing lengths of elevated masts. One version features two tall masts, one features two short masts, and one features one of each, allowing for exact historical accuracy in the scene being depicted. Included in the kit are all necessary components except for the lighted signal heads.
This kit is extremely faithful to the original design, with only minor concessions made in the name of strength. The mast is made from 3/32” brass tube, which is only slightly larger than a true scale design. This tube size allows all wires from the signal heads to be managed and routed beneath the layout.
The ladder/handrail assemblies feature dimensions and proportions nearly identical to the real thing. The one-piece construction makes them easy to install on each mast, and the ladders are already fixed at the appropriate angles. The elevated platform and related bracing are provided as one large component, making it easy to join the upper and lower components of the kit.
Additionally, the kit includes options for two different pinnacles for the tops of the masts, and four different options for the mast bases. The kit also includes four brackets designed for mounting the signal heads. Additionally, minor details including a ladder base component and a horizontal cross brace are included.
This kit is designed to work seamlessly with Model Smiths’ models; proper fitment cannot be guaranteed when using models produced by other manufacturers.
This mast is designed based on historical drawings and photographs, and therefore closely matches the “standard” design. However, we know that railroads often iterate designs and implement unique variations based on the specifics of the installation. Therefore, if you require a variation of this mast, we are happy to work with you to develop a custom design!
